Greenfield- Helen Frances (Markham) Putnam, 92, formerly of Greenfield and The Arbors Assisted Living in Westfield, died Wednesday 1/18/17 at Heritage Hall South in Agawam.  She was the daughter of James S. and Margaret (Guthrie) Markham.  Born on February 5, 1924 in Ayer, MA, Helen moved to Greenfield in 1932, graduating from Greenfield High School Class of 1941. 

Helen worked as a telephone operator for New England Tel & Tel and was one of the founding members of the Candy Cane Carnival at Holy Trinity School in 1954.  She was a longtime member of the Country Club of Greenfield and was a volunteer on the Board of Organized Work at the Franklin County Medical Center. 

Before moving to Westfield, Helen was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenfield. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur B. Putnam in 1998; her brother, Paul Lothrop of Chicago; and her sister Constance Taft of Greenfield. 

Among her survivors, she leaves a son, Thomas A. Putnam of Greenfield; a daughter, Margaret A. Hurley of Westfield; three grandchildren, Sarah (Putnam) Sumner and her husband Craig of Acushnet, Erin (Hurley) King and her husband Robert of Feeding Hills, and Matthew Putnam and his wife Sara at Tempe, AZ; and five great grandchildren, Lindsay and Carter Sumner, Cameron and Peyton King and Riley Putnam. 

Funeral services will be held Monday 1/23 at 9:30am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street Greenfield.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield. 

Visitation will be held Monday morning from 9am until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Activity Fund, The Arbors Assisted Living, 40 Court Street, Westfield, MA 01085.
