Virginia G. (Duprey) Hickey

Virginia G. (Duprey) Hickey, 97, died Monday 7/26/21 at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield.  She was born in Turners Falls on October 28, 1923, the daughter of Louis and Viola (Cousino) Duprey.  Virginia attended local schools in Greenfield and was a resident of Greenfield prior to moving Bernardston in 1993.

On August 6, 1945, Virginia married Joseph R. Hickey.  He predeceased her on July 28, 1991.

Virginia was employed at the Mount Herman School in Northfield in the housekeeping department for over twenty years before her retirement in 1985.

Above all things, Virginia loved spending time with her family.  She enjoyed gardening, shopping, baking, cooking, playing bingo and fun outings to dinner with friends and family and trips to the casino. Virginia enjoyed watching old movies, especially, Western cowboy films. Everyone who knew her would agree, she had the most wonderful and infectious laughter and smile.

Among her survivors, Virginia leaves a son, Michael Hickey and his wife Tina of Bernardston; a daughter, Maureen Devino of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Dawn (Devino) Champagne, Danyelle (Devino) MacLeod and her husband Jason, Ryan Hickey and his wife Amanda and Jason Hickey and his wife Devon; eight great grandchildren, Harlon, Rowen, Grace and Connor Hickey, Jayson Smith, Brooke Mastrototaro and her husband Myles, and Tyler and Jake Champagne; two nieces, Sandy Boisvert and her husband Randy and Joanne Wheeler. She also leaves her special friend and roommate, Sharon.

Besides her husband, Joseph R. Hickey, Virginia was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Leroy and Viola Kosakowski and a brother, William Duprey.

A special thank you to the nurses, CNAs, and staff at Charlene Manor and the staff of Hospice for the care and friendship they provided for her.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
