Susan Unaitis, 76, of Greenfield passed away Thursday 1/30/25 at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield.  She was born in Greenfield on June 22, 1948, the daughter of Anthony Unaitis and Lucille (Karpinski) Lincoln.  Susie attended Holy Trinity School and was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1967.
After graduation, Susie attended hairdressing school and in 1970 she opened her own hair salon in Greenfield. 
Susie moved to California in 1974, and in 1979 she enlisted in the United States Army, training at Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Leonard Wood, MI.  In 1980, she was stationed in Germany as a mechanic in maintenance.  After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1981, Susie returned to California to work in home health care.  
In 1986, she came back to Massachusetts and worked in various nursing homes from 1988 until 1994. 
Susie attended Greenfield Community College from 2004-2006, graduating with an Associates Degree in social services. 
Susie enjoyed volunteering at the Green River House and The Arc, where she enjoyed making friends and enjoyed the community.  She embraced the Catholic community and was an avid member of Blessed Trinity Parishes. Susie was very fond of animals, especially cats, dogs, birds and squirrels.  She greatly enjoyed going back to Bellows Falls, VT with her mother to watch the parade.  
In 2015, an accidental house fire caused severe burns to Susie which put her at Mass General in Boston in a medically induced coma for a month and then went to Spaulding Rehab.
After being released from Spaulding in October of 2015, Susie went to the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility for more rehab and recovery.  Charlene Manor became Susie’s home and very much enjoyed the staff and making friends there. 
Besides her parents, Susie was predeceased by her brother, Anthony “Jimmy” Unaitis, Jr. and a sister, Patty Unaitis. 
Among her survivors, Susie leaves two brothers, Richard and Jon Unaitis, both of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews. 
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday 2/12 at 9am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal Street, Greenfield.  Burial will be held in the spring. 
There will be no calling hours.
