Stuart MacEachen Obituary

Stuart J. MacEachen, 93, of Erving, died Wednesday 9/7/22 at home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia. A proud Whitney Pier boy, Stuart was born on February 23, 1929, the youngest of nine children born to Daniel and Catherine (MacVarish) MacEachen.
Stuart came to the United States in 1944, finishing high school before enrolling in the Army and obtaining US citizenship. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he attended Boston University on the GI Bill. Upon graduating with a degree in Business Administration, Stuart began his career in sales, a profession naturally suited to his charming personality and great wit. He would excel in his career, building lifelong friendships and connections based on honesty and loyalty. Stuart stayed in sales throughout his career, climbing the corporate ladder working for Monsanto, USI and Mohawk Plastics, before retiring as a sales executive for Northern Petrochemical Company (Enron Corporation).
Stuart was a sports fanatic, whether playing golf, watching his favorite Boston teams or playing with his girls on the local playground, sports brought him great joy. Upon retirement, Stuart immersed himself in all the books he missed while working, sometimes finishing in excess of three books a week. Politics, mysteries, history—he even got halfway through a 1200 page novel before realizing he had already read it—he just loved reading.
Stuart’s family were his pride and joy. He enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by his girls—and there were many! He was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him, but none more than his girls!
Stuart was greeted in heaven by his wife of 59 years, Betsy (Welch), and his great-grandson, Braxton Stuart Zimmer, as well as his parents and all his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his four daughters, Erin Catherine MacEachen and her partner Samson Hale; Lauren Marie MacEachen and her husband Keith Kobza; Mary-Jessica (MacEachen) DeFlumeri and her husband Anthony; Shawna Elizabeth (MacEachen) Nelsen and her husband Phil; two granddaughters, Justine Elizabeth (MacEachen) Zimmer and her husband Brian, and Grace MacKayla Nelsen; and a great-granddaughter, Averie Laurence Zimmer. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 21, at 11:00 am, at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 84 K Street, Turners Falls.  Burial will follow at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery in Turners Falls. A celebration of Stuart’s life will be held afterwards at his old stomping grounds, Miller’s Pub (formerly Equi’s Spanish Garden) in the center of downtown Millers Falls.  Please bring your stories and share your memories. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in honor of his late wife, Betsy, to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Massachusetts Chapter, 101 First Ave, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02154.
