Stella (Cyganiewicz) Shilko

Stella (Cyganiewicz) Shilko, a happy and healthy 101, died Tuesday 4/28/20 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield, due to contracting the COVID-19 virus. She was born in Baldwinsville, MA on January 2, 1919, the daughter of Stanley and Blanche (Dymek) Cyganiewicz. Stella attended local schools in Gardner. She worked for the L.S. Starrett Company in Athol MA.
In her earlier years she was an active volunteer in the VFW Auxiliary. She was past President of the Worcester County VFW Auxiliary and at one point was the Worcester County VFW Auxiliary Commander.
Always loving and genuine, Stella was a strong, quiet woman who knew how to appreciate the simple things in life. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, making puzzles, home cooking and traveling. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Stella was a resident at the Weldon for thirty years, residing there since it's opening. She was active at the Weldon, doing office work and answering the phones. She was instrumental in helping at the Senior Center there before it's move. She enjoyed volunteering, including at the Franklin County Fair in the Roundhouse for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Roseanna Shilko of Athol; a grandson, Patrick Manewich and his partner Jennifer Gerace of Leyden MA, their daughter and her great granddaughter Sophia; a grandson, Ryan Manewich and his partner Alyson Stanley of Morrisville VT, their sons and her great grandsons, Tucker and Cooper, granddaughter Katie Manewich of Stowe VT; a sister, Stazy Fredette of Gardner, MA; and a son-in-law, William Manewich of Shelburne, MA.
Stella was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Shilko; a daughter, Joanne Manewich; three brothers, John, Leon and Joseph Cyganiewicz; and three sisters, Nellie Wesockes, Blanche Aucoin and Mary Harlow.
Funeral services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
