Stanley Niedzwiedz Obituary

Stanley E. Niedzwiedz, 101, of 198 Plain Road died Friday, 04/07/23 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
He was born in Erving on September 29, 1921, the son of Thomas and Mary (Galvis) Niedzwiedz. He grew up in Millers Falls and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1939.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was trained in machine technology at the Great Lakes Naval School. He was assigned to the USS Blue Ridge, an Appalachian-class amphibious force flagship headed for the South Pacific. His ship became the command ship for the amphibious forces along the west coast of New Guinea and later in the invasion of the Philippines at Lingayan Gulf. He was one of five brothers that served in the armed forces during WWII. He married the former, Stella Krol while on shore leave in the Bronx, NY on July 17, 1943.
After the war they made their home in Greenfield and he worked as a machinist for the Millers Falls Tool Company until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the call fire department during the 1950's.  He was also a communicant of the Holy Trinity Parish in Greenfield.  
During his younger years, Stanley enjoyed playing golf, bowling, swimming and camping. He was an avid sports fan and watched the Red Sox faithfully right up to last Monday’s game. He also loved working around his home. His love of family was most important to him.
Stanley was pre-deceased by his wife, Stella (Krol) in 2003 and his son, Thomas of Bownsville, TX in 2008.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Niedzwiedz) Kievenaar and her husband William of Greenfield and his daughter-in-law, Margarita (Cordova) Niedzwiedz of Brownsville, TX. 
Stanley leaves six grandchildren: William Connolly and his wife, Bethany of Warren, RI, Carrie Strakose and her husband, Peter of Greenfield, Ma, Jason Niedzwiedz and his wife, Jacqui of Austin, TX, Christopher Niedzwiedz and his wife, Nancy of Brownsville, TX, Jeremy Niedzwiedz and his wife, Priscilla of Brownsville, TX, and Aniela Niedzwiedz and Frank Saldana of Austin, TX.
He also leaves 17 great grandchildren: Owen, Aiden, Liam, Laz, LaReina, Ethan, Asher, Blake, Mason, Jaxon, Baily, Scarlet, Aiden, Melanie, Thomas, Addison, and Trillian and many loved nieces and nephews. 
Funeral services will be at the Kostanski Funeral Home 220 Federal St, Greenfield, MA at 9:15 AM on Thursday April 13, 2023. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Blessed Trinity Parish/Holy Trinity Church 133 Main St Greenfield, MA.  Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
