Stanley "Stash" T. Kaczenski, 96, of Elm Street died Tuesday 12/29/2020 in his home, surrounded by family. He was born in Greenfield on April 19, 1924, the son of Joseph M. and Wladeslawa (Orlowska) Kaczenski. Stash attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1943.
Stash served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea. He went on to serve the Greenfield Police Department for 22 years, becoming a Patrolman on 7-16-60, Sergeant on 1-22-68, Lieutenant on 4-16-71, Captain on 11-18-74 and Police Chief from 11-25-75 until his retirement on 4-20-82.
Stash was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Turners Falls. He was a life member of the U.S.S. St. Paul Association, a member of the Elks Club in Greenfield, and a member of the Greenfield VFW Post 417 where he served as Commander from 1970-1971. He was dedicated to his family, his friends, and to doing the right thing. He had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up a room.
Besides his beloved wife of seventy years, Helen M. (Watrous) Kaczenski, Stash leaves two daughters: Marcie White and Teresa McLaughlin, both of Greenfield; five grandchildren: Stash, Peter (Diana) and Brennan White, and Sarah and Mariah (Steve McNeil) McLaughlin; eleven great grandchildren: Christopher, Benjamin and Lassandra McLaughlin, Sophia McNeil, Adrian Lara, Nicholas White, Sara and Natalie Andreini, Mia White, and Blake and Ethan White; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Stash was predeceased by his sister Helen Butynski, his brothers Alexander, Chet, Joseph, Bill and Brownie Kaczenski, and his grandson in 2019, Nicholas White.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 1/5/2021 at 11am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 84 K Street, Turners Falls. Burial will follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Greenfield.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church Renovation Fund, 84 K Street, Turners Falls, MA 01376.
