Sharon (Dillard) Richardson Obituary

Sharon (Dillard) Richardson of Greenfield, MA passed away at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by her loved ones.  Known for her infectious laugh, welcoming spirit, and positive attitude, she had a large circle of friends.
Sharon was born in Holyoke, MA 1/11/62, the daughter of William and Betty (Rainaud) Dillard. Sharon dedicated her life to nurturing children.  She earned her degree in Early Childhood Education from Greenfield Community College and worked at various times at Four Corners Elementary School, Greenfield YMCA, Greenfield Girls Club, Camp Lion Knoll, and Head Start. For 20 years, Sharon owned and operated a home-based daycare.  These years were her most cherished times as the day care families became members of her own family.
Sharon’s home was always open for her children’s friends, and she hosted some epic parties over the years; Thanksgiving pre-football breakfasts, summer pool parties, Father’s Day picnics, and “Last Day of School” blowouts. Music was always part of the scene, the louder the better, as long as it was good old Rock and Roll.
Family vacations became part of summer, camping in the RV, typically with each of her children bringing along at least one friend (and sometimes 8).  In 2018 the family purchased the “Beach House” in Old Orchard Beach which Sharon treasured. Especially when her children, grandchildren, and their friends would stay over.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 39 years, Kurt; sons, Nathan (Chloe) of S. Burlington, VT and Alex (Caitlyn) of Medford, MA; and daughter Chelsea (Richardson) Dyer of Erving, MA.  Her grandchildren were her world: Hayden Girard, Jacolby and Jayce Dyer, and Isabel and Owen Richardson-Deas. She is also survived by her brother Greg and wife Shirley of Belchertown, MA.
Respecting Sharon’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be private. A Celebration of Life is being planned by the family with details forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the Richardson family has set up a GoFundMe to establish a lasting memorial at https://gofund.me/11c2cfd4
