South Deerfield, MA - R. David Wells, 79, owner of Wells Builders in South Deerfield passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2024.

David began his long career as a carpenter after graduating high school working for the family business under his father, Roger Wells, in 1962. David became the owner of the business in 1974, after his father's passing. He was a master carpenter, having done historical restoration work in Old Deerfield, constructed several homes and businesses in the area, and was even commissioned to build and install a kitchen in Illinois after the customer saw he and his father's work in a magazine.

Born in Greenfield, Massachusetts on July 9, 1944, he was the second son of the late Roger & Myllis Wells. He was raised in South Deerfield, educated in local schools, and graduated from Frontier Regional High School in 1962. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard, and attended basic training at Fort Dix, NJ in 1965. David loved to play golf any chance he could get. He played on several local golf leagues and especially cherished the time he played with his sons at TPC Sawgrass-Stadium Course in Ponta Vedra, Florida, having scored par on the famous 17 th hole, island green. David was also involved with his community, having been a member of the South Deerfield Rotary Club for many years, and most recently serving as Commissioner on the South Deerfield Water Supply District.

David leaves behind his sons, Justin Wells and his wife Laurie of Greenfield, and Jeremy Wells of Milford, Ct. He also leaves three grandchildren, Nicholas Wells, McKenna Wells, and Mitchell Wells as well as his many siblings, Judith Haskell and her husband Art (Sunderland), Linda O'Neill (South Deerfield), Jane Lagowski and her husband Tom (Buzzards Bay), Douglas Wells (Bernadston), Joanne Young and her husband Wayne (Conway), Deborah Madigan and her husband Jim (Conway), Carol Mizula and her husband Steve (South Deerfield), Cynthia Wells (Colrain), and Robert Wells and his wife Maryanne (Montague), as well as many nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his parents, Roger & Myllis Wells, brother Richard Wells, and brother James Wells.
