Robert W. Walker Obituary

Robert “Bob” Wyman Walker of Montague MA passed away at the age of 91 on January 15, 2025. Bob was intensely sewing new quilts until the last weeks of life.
Bob was born in Wollaston MA on March 15, 1933, the son of Kenneth and Claire (Wyman) Walker. Bob was married to Muriel “Boots” Walker for 60 years. Together they had one child: Jeffrey.
Bob held a PhD in Microbiology from Michigan State University and BS/MS in Public Health from UMass Amherst. He was a professor of Microbiology, Public Health and Environmental Sciences for 32 years at UMass Amherst.
Bob’s love of gardening led him to grow and breed award winning lilies and daylilies. Bob was a strong proponent of forest conservation. Quilting and brewing beer were some of his favorite hobbies. Bits of Bob now live in many people’s homes via the quilts, lilies and daylilies he gifted them.
A celebration of life to be held at a future date.  A private burial took place in Highland Woods.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of the Fisher Home, www.fisherhome.org.
