Obituary

Robert F. Murphy, 90, of New Smyrna Beach, FL passed away Monday 8/21/23 at the Halifax Medical Center in Dayton Beach, FL.  Bob was born in Brighton, MA on October 7, 1932, the son of Louis and Lillian (Craig) Murphy.  Bob attended local schools in Brighton and was a notable four sport athlete in high school.  He played varsity football, track and hockey and was a statewide all-star athlete in baseball.  After high school, he played Minor League Baseball for the Boston Braves and the Brooklyn Dodgers farm teams.
Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War.  He was stationed at Wheelus Air Base in Tripoli, Libya where he was a flight crew member on Douglas DC3 aircraft. Following four years in the Air Force, Bob attended University of Massachusetts Amherst, earning a BS in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduation, he worked for DuPont Company for 33 years until his retirement.
Later in life, Bob became an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with his wife of fifty years, June (Trela) Murphy of Greenfield, MA.  Bob and June also enjoyed spending their summers at their lake house on Lake Wyola in Shutesbury, MA. While we are sad to see such a wonderful father, uncle and brother leave this world, we are comforted to know he is finally reunited with his wife who predeceased him 13 years ago.
Among his survivors, Bob leaves a brother John of Sudbury, MA; a son Michael and his wife Sherri of Sudbury, MA; a daughter, Mary Beth Tudas and her husband Jeff of Leawood, KS; six grandchildren, Jessica Urlich and her husband Jeff, Ryan Tudas and his wife Carrie, Blair Tudas and his wife Violet, Sean Tudas, and Lauren and Matthew Murphy; six great grandchildren; and a niece and nephew Christine and Greg Coughlin.
Along with his parents, Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife June, his sisters, Kathleen Joan and baby Eileen.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held September 15th at 10am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 84 K Street, Turners Falls.  Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Friday morning September 15th from 8:30am-9:30am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.
