Richard R. Gordon, age 77, of Old Albany Road, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2022 at home in Greenfield after a period of declining health.
Richard was incredibly intelligent, loquacious and thoughtful. A consummate conversationalist, he was always eager to hear about and discuss the interests and hobbies of others. He had a passion and appreciation for all things food related and was also an amazing chef.
He was born in Sydney, Australia on February 10, 1944, the son of Leslie and Noelyn Gordon.
After finishing university, Richard joined the Australian Army and served in the Vietnam War. He then traveled extensively around the world including two stays on a kibbutz in Israel, picking grapefruit. This was an influential period in his life and he often regaled those he loved with stories of these adventures. Richard graduated from Harvard Business School, where he met his wife, Jeanne Canteen in 1976. Jeanne and Richard were married in 1977 and had two lovely daughters, Elizabeth and Victoria.
He was employed by McKinsey and Co. and other consulting firms for many years. His love of travel continued throughout his life. He was always in favor of the scenic route no matter how much time it added. He traveled with his family throughout the United States and Europe often; including many memorable trips to the US Virgin Islands, Scotland, the Middle East and Australia.
Richard & Jeanne moved to Greenfield, MA in 2004 and have resided happily on Old Albany Road since then. Richard leaves his wife, Jeanne Canteen; two daughters, Elizabeth Weeks of Avon, CT and Victoria Lesourd of Hoboken, NJ; a brother, David Gordon; two beloved grandchildren, Elliot & Samantha, and many friends around the world.
At his request, there is no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James & St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church,8 Church Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
