Philip A. Stevens, 82, of Shelburne Road passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Greenfield Rehabilitation Center. Philip was born in Greenfield on June 9, 1942, as the twelfth of fourteen children born to his parents Eula Lena (Hall) and Joseph Andrew Stevens, who predeceased him. He attended local Greenfield schools and remained a devoted member of the Greenfield community through his life.

He worked as a railroad laborer for nearly 40 years and was a proud union member. Philip was a life member of both the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and Lions Club International. He looked forward to the Franklin County Fair every year where he was a familiar face to many at the Lions Club booth, serving up favorite fair foods while raising money for the Lions Club’s charitable efforts. As a life member of Lodge 997 of The Loyal Order of the Moose, Philip served in many capacities, including as the lodge’s president. He attained the highest rank of Pilgrim in 1979. He viewed his work with the Moose Club as his highest achievement. He was respon sible for sponsoring 155 mem bers in joining the lodge. Philip was a proud supporter of Mooseheart, a residential childcare facility funded by the Moose Club, where children and teens whose families are unable to care for them receive the help they need to lead successful lives. He made over thirty visits to Mooseheart and oversaw countless fundraising efforts for its operation. Philip was the heart of Lodge 997. Some of his favorite memories were working at the many fundraising dinners served at the Moose Lodge alongside life-long friends Kenny Kurtyka, Anne Harrington, and Alice Hunter. In addition to his parents, Philip is predeceased by 11 of his siblings: Margaret Thorn ton, Joseph Stevens, John Stevens, Pauline Fryette, Arthur Stevens, Guy Stevens, Richard Stevens, Alberta Stevens, Phyllis Whiteman, Albert Stevens, and Sally (Alfreda) LaBier.

He is survived by his sister Beverly Parent of Brattleboro, Vermont, and his brother Alfred J. Stevens and his wife Adele of Greenfield. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he kindly supported and shared a laugh with through the years, including Richard Stevens of Turners Falls, who served as Philip’s caregiver in his final years. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 4- 6 pm at Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St, Greenfield. The funeral will be held Thursday, August 1 at 10 am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield, with the burial to follow at Green River Cemetery.
