Peter S. Miller, 82, of Sanderson St. died Sunday (1-3-21) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Greenfield, MA February 21, 1938, the son of Charles and Helen (Spencer) Miller. Peter attended local schools and graduated from Greenfield High School. He studied history at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Peter was a sales associate for John Hancock Insurance Company for many years. He had been a member of the Second Congregational Church for most of his life.
He was a US Army veteran serving his country from 1961 to 1964 spending much of that time in Stuttgart and traveling to the neighboring areas to see places related to his family lineage.
His passion was history. Peter had a wealth of knowledge about local history, being the Town of Greenfield or the railroad, Historic Deerfield or his family’s genealogy. He had an extensive collection of photos, maps, magazines and other print related to the Pioneer Valley.
He was past president of the Greenfield Historical Society, an avid stamp and coin collector and also collected commemorative spoons. Peter enjoyed spending time at his camp on Laurel Lake. He was the superintendent of Federal St. Cemetery for many years.
Peter leaves his niece Michelle Adams and her husband John of Boston and their children Sofya Gurel, Otis Adams, Mini Gurel his niece Danielle Simbajon and her husband John and their daughter Skye, his nephew Chuck Miller and his wife Laura and their son Oliver. He was predeceased by his mother Helen Schuhle, step-father Carl Schuhle and his brothers, Charles Miller and Arthur Miller.
A memorial service will at a later time and date to be announced. Burial will take place in Federal St. Cemetery.
