Paul Grimard Obituary

Turners Falls---Paul N. Grimard, 91, of Henry Ave., died Wednesday (4-11-18) at Venice Hospital in Venice, Florida. He was born September 14, 1926 in Turners Falls, the son of Herman and Alvina (Beaubien) Grimard.

Paul attended Saint Anne’s Parochial School and Turners Falls High School. He married the former Helen Rhodes of Greenfield May 17, 1952. Helen passed away August 28, 2009 after 57 years of marriage.

He worked as a painter before enlisting in the US Army. Serving from January 1953 to December 1954 during the Korean War era, stationed in Germany for 15 months.

Paul then attended Lynn Industrial Shoe Making School. He owned and operated Grimard’s Shoe Service in Turners Falls from June of 1955 to May of 1977 and Paul’s Shoe Repair in Amherst from 1969 until his retirement in 1988. His son Kevin continues to operate Paul’s Shoe Repair in Amherst.

Paul and his wife Helen enjoyed their summers at the camp he built for his family on Long Pond in New Hampshire, hunting and fishing with his children; along with his father, brother, nephews, and nieces.

Upon their retirement, Paul and Helen spent their summers at their camp, and winters in Venice, Florida.  They enjoyed dancing at many clubs, including the American Legion, Elks, and Moose Club; watching the boats go out on the intercostal, and the Venice sunsets on the gulf.

Among his survivors Paul leaves his five children: David Grimard and his wife Patty of Annapolis, MD and their children, Matt, Josh, Sam and Lucas; Kathy Wickles and her husband Mark of Hatfield and their children, Brittney, Kevin and Lucas; Kevin Grimard and his wife Pam of Turners Falls and their children, Jason, Megan and Lauren; Shirley Currie and her husband Roy of Granby and their children, Cassy, Brock, Colby, Cameron and Roy; Paul A. Grimard and his wife Tamara and their daughter Sophia of Greenfield and Paul’s children, Kyle, Lexie, Talia and Corbyn. He leaves nine great-grandchildren: Breyson, Liam, Ellie, Arianna, Evarina Rose, Kevin, Grace, Madison, and Bradlee Mae. He also leaves his companion Barbara McQuaid of Venice, Florida.

Calling hours will be Saturday April 28, 2018 from 9-10 AM at Our Lady of Peace Church, followed by a memorial mass at 10 AM with Rev. Stanley Aksamit pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
