On Thursday, April 10, 2025, our beloved husband, father, Grampy, brother and uncle Patrick T. Collins passed away after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Patrick (Pat) was born on February 19, 1960, in New Britain, CT, the third child of Ralph Robert Collins and Mary Patricia (Flanagan) Collins. 
He attended Greenfield Public Schools through eighth grade and graduated from Deerfield Academy in the Class of 1978. He went on to further his education for one year at the University of Massachusetts/ Amherst before beginning his early career in the culinary field. He worked in various area restaurants, including Albertis, where he began working at age 13 and continued working there for the next ten years. He also worked at Herms, Howard Johnsons, the Minuteman Diner and was the Executive Chef at the family owned and operated Collins House which was a labor love for Patrick. He then went on to work for the A.R Sandi Company as a groundskeeper at Crumpin Fox until he was injured on the job. 

He is survived by the love of his life Jane (Hulett) Collins who he met in 1980 and married in 2000. They would have celebrated 25 years of marriage on June 24, 2025. He leaves three children; Victoria (Hulett) Wheeler, Lisa Jones Linnell and Robert Joseph LaMana and six grandchildren Kye Johnson, Joshua Donais, Austin Wheeler (Megan), Stephen Wheeler, James Gamlin and Emily LaMana and five great grandchildren who knew him as Grampy. He also leaves three siblings: Carol Jacobs (Christian), Michael J. Collins (Tracy), Kathleen Mullen (David). Another brother Christopher Collins (Barbara) predeceased him in 2022.  He was “Uncle Pat” to eight nieces and nephews, Matthew Jacobs, Andrew Jacobs (Emily), Brenden Jacobs, Michael Collins Jr. (Amanda), Ryan Collins (Mallory), Katie Klacik (Andrew), Brian Mullen, Sean Mullen and five great nieces and nephews.  He also leaves two brothers-in-law on his wife’s side Jerry Hulett (Rita), Alan Dione (Agnes) and the late Stanley Hulett. He is also survived by his “ray of sunshine” close friend Dorothy Jacques and family. Most especially, he leaves his beloved dog Shaughnessy and grand dog Cody.

Patrick was a “salt of the earth kind of guy” with many unique skills and talents. He was a culinary genius, a self-taught “jack of all trades”, a computer whiz and a staunch political with strong conservative beliefs. He was an avid viewer of Fox News, and we can only imagine the animated discussions/ debates he will have in heaven with liberal brother Christopher and his oldest friend Mark Maloney about the political issues of the day. Patrick was well read and particularly enjoyed history.  He was a die-hard New England Patriots fan who also enjoyed watching golf, hockey and the Olympics. In his youth, he was a goalie in the Franklin County Hockey Association and at Deerfield Academy in his high school years.  His love for hockey continued as he became a coach and mentor for countless youth hockey players over the years.

Following the passing of his father Ralph Collins in 1988, Patrick was instrumental in organizing and overseeing the running of the Barber Collins Memorial Tournament that became one of the premiere golf events of the season at the Greenfield Country Club every September. This was a labor of love for him as it was in memory of his father. 

Patrick will be missed by all who knew him as a real “character”, an Irishman who lived life on his own terms, told it like it was and liked to be right but his greatest joy was being with his family and friends, in the house he grew up in and taking his dogs (past and present) for car rides. He loved deeply and gave the best hugs that came from his heart. 

The family would like to thank all the healthcare professionals, especially the doctors and nurses at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital for all of the excellent care, concern and compassion they showed to Patrick throughout his illness. In our eyes, they are angels on earth. 

There will be no calling hours, but a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 3, 2025, at Terrazza at the Greenfield Country Club from 1:00pm-4:00pm. Food and beverages will be provided as well as the opportunity to share stories and memories of times spent with Patrick.
