Michael V. Behn, 76, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after a brief and brave battle with pancreatic cancer, on Saturday September 14, 2024.

He was born in Bridgeport, CT on March 18, 1948, the son of Vernon C. and Ann Snyder Behn. Among his survivors, Mike leaves his beloved wife, soul mate, and best friend of almost a quarter of a century, Carol Anne Behn; a son, Brian Behn and his wife Sarah; his granddaughter, Lucy Behn all of Colorado. He also leaves his brother, Robert W. Behn and wife Diane Stover Behn, nephew Robert V. Behn and his wife Kristin (Raccio) and their son Nicholas; niece Amy Behn Hall and her husband Mark and their children Emma and Austin, all of Connecticut. He was loved by Carol Anne’s family, completing their family as the Franks and Behns. He is also survived by his loyal companion Buddy. 

Mike received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Sacred Heart University where he was a member of the inaugural graduating class.  He started his career at Sunoco in Philadelphia and then joined the Sandri Companies in 1976. He truly was one of the most valuable acquisitions Sandri ever made. He spent 48 years with the Sandri Companies, most recently as President and Chief Operating Officer since 2014. He spent his career building incredible relationships and bonds with all his employees, business associates and partners and he was fiercely dedicated to the success of his team at the Sandri Companies and took great pride in the decades-long partnerships he built.  He served as President of the Sunoco Distributor Council for the past 12 years, forging strong friendships with his fellow distributors. 

Mike was a dedicated, supportive, loving father and friend to his son, Brian. Despite a demanding work schedule Mike always made the time for adventures with his son in the mountains of Vermont, New Hampshire, and beyond.

Mike’s strong work ethic was carried through in all aspects of his life. He never did anything half way, always above and beyond. Mike was a mentor by nature. His positive attitude was infectious; he inspired people to do better. He was the most generous man, taking care of everyone he crossed paths with. His door was always open, and he was always willing to listen and humbly advise.  His strength of character and integrity has been the cornerstone for all who have crossed paths with him and will continue on as his legacy

When he wasn’t putting in long days at the office with his canine companion by his side, he could be found outdoors. He and Carol Anne loved their time at their beautiful cabin in New Hampshire where they would snowshoe, hike, bike, kayak, swim, bird watch. He was always on the lookout for wildlife, especially turtles. His love for life shined bright. He was an avid gardener cultivating beautiful spots for pollinators. Mike wanted everyone to always have the best time and enjoy life. He always encouraged people to jump off the rock, climb to the top, squeeze everything you can out of the day. He perfectly crafted the art of hanging out, by the fire, with a lukewarm cocktail, and the best company. It is unmeasurable the amount of lives he’s touched. He embodies joy, love, friendship, leadership, strength, and courage.

Calling hours will be held Thursday evening, September 26th, 2024 from 4-8pm at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield, MA. A celebration of life will be held Friday September 27, 2024 from 1-4pm at Zeke’s Restaurant at Crumpin-Fox Golf Course, 87 Parmenter Road, Bernardston, MA.
