Matthew N. Polo

Matthew N. Polo, 97, of Forest Ave died Tuesday 4/12/22 at home.  He was born in Greenfield on December 25, 1924, the son of Luigi and Columbia Polo.  Matthew graduated from Greenfield High school and took classes at Brown School of Banking.
He served in the United States Army Air Corp as a radioman and waist gunner during the European Theatre.  He remained in contact with members of his flight crew through out his life.
Matthew spent his career working  at Greenfield Savings Bank, retiring as President and Treasurer. He was also a member of the Greenfield Finance Committee.
Matthew loved being with his family, his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed being with a group of friends, affectionally know as club. He also enjoyed golf, gardening, playing the trumpet and painting.  
Besides his parents, Matthew was predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty seven years, Harriet (Moore) Polo on March 15, 2007 and by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Sweeney. 
Among his survivors, Matthew leaves a son, Matthew D. Polo; three daughters, Ann Sweeney and her husband Michael, Jane Polo and her partner Kevin Olson and Mary Butynski; five grandchildren, Kate Richard and her husband Jim, Jennifer Grubler and her husband Andrew, Emily Kerwin and her husband Randy, Samantha Jones and her husband Ethan and Joshua Butynski; eleven great grandchildren; and two brothers, John Polo and his partner Barbara Smead and Jospeh Polo. His sister in law Mary Lou Moore and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 4/19 at 9:15am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal Street, Greenfield.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield. 
Calling hours will be held Monday evening from 4-6pm at the funeral home.
