Mary A. (Podlo) Barchenski

Mary A. (Podlo) Barchenski, 97, of Garfield Street died Monday May 2, 2022 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield.  She was born in Deerfield on March 21, 1925, the daughter of John and Valeria (Karwoski) Podlo.  
She attended Deerfield schools and graduated from the former Deerfield High School.
Mary was a cafeteria worker for the City of Greenfield prior to her retirement. She was also a volunteer and parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church and sang with the Saint Ceceilia choir.
She enjoyed music, watching game shows, playing her and her twin sister's daily numbers, shopping, traveling, and most of all "her" Boston Red Sox.
Among her survivors, Mary leaves her son in law, Donald K. Holmes of Rocky Hill. CT; her granddaughter, Sarah A. Gulan and her husband John of Plainville, CT; her step great grandson, Kai Gulan; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty four years, John J. Barchenski; her daughter, Marlene M. Holmes; four brothers, John, Roger, Peter and Charles Podlo; four sisters, Helen Rudnicki, Josephine Freeman, Rose Serowick, and Valeria Fosberry; and her twin sister, Sophie Lawor.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 5/10 at 10am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal Street, Greenfield.  Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in South Deerfield. 
A calling hour will be held Tuesday morning from 8:45am to 9:45am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield.
