Marjorie Naida Obituary

Marjorie Frances (Reilly) Naida passed away at home after a brief but courageous battle with cancer on February 1, 2023, with her daughter, Cindy at her side. Born in Springfield, MA on February 16, 1930, she was the only child of Blanche (Gibbs) and John F. Reilly.

Marjorie grew up in Springfield, graduating at age 16 from Commerce High School.   At that time, she began her career as a personal secretarial assistant to Mr. Albert Steiger of Steigers Department Stores and later worked for Monsanto Company.

Margie met the love of her life, her best friend and soulmate Joseph, at a polka dance at St. Kaz and the two were married on April 30, 1955. They made their forever home in Gill, where they raised their three daughters.  It continued to be the family gathering place even after the girls grew up and had families of their own and Joe’s passing.  Fond memories of family camping trips, Sunday rides, Polka dances and holiday gatherings will be treasured memories forever. When Margie wasn’t busy as a homemaker, she worked for Greenfield Tap and Die and was a food service employee for the Gill Montague school district.

Mom took pride in her home, especially her flower beds which were so meticulous and admired by many who drove by the family home.  She loved reading, adored shopping trips and day adventures with her daughters, polka music and the holidays.  A lifelong lover of animals, mom was never without some type of pet, her faithful dog Lulu never left her side, even at the end of her life.

Marjorie treasured her family and friends, her kindness, generosity and care/concern for others was felt by all those who knew her.

Marjorie was a devout Catholic and was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality.

Marjorie is survived by her three daughters, Linda Earle and her husband Steve of North Andover, MA, Cynthia Shanahan and her husband Philip (Chic) of Bernardston, MA, and Debra Bailey and her husband Tim of Mashpee, MA, and their son Jack Joseph, whom she adored and always told Jack she loved him to the “Moon and Back”.

Marjorie was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Joseph, who passed in 2011.

Calling hours will be held at Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 08:30-10:30 AM, followed by A Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church.  Burial will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery.
