Marie J. Iken, 72, of Academy Hill Road died peacefully Sunday 12/26/21 at home. Commonly known as Marjo by her friends and family, she was born in Samarang, Indonesia on January 27, 1949, the daughter of Willem and Francisca (van der Meer) Iken.
Prior to retirement, Marjo was the Lab Director for the Town of Greenfield in the Wastewater Treatment Facility.
As a microbiologist, Marjo loved science. She enjoyed gardening and composting, creating a composting program at Conway Grammar School and she was highly involved in the local community including serving on the Conway Board of Health and several other local environmental agendas.
Besides her parents, Marjo was predeceased by her beloved Maarten van de Kamp of 28 years.
Among her survivors, Marjo leaves two children; her daughter, Elisa van de Kamp and her husband Devin McCormick of Baltimore, MD; her son, Nickolas van de Kamp of Conway; and her sister, Rosemarijke Iken.
A celebration of Life will be held at a date and time to be announced in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hilltown Churches Food Pantry or to the Future Farmers of America.
