Margaret E. (Hanley) Geraghty

Margaret E. (Hanley) Geraghty, 97, died Thursday May 6, 2021 at The Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield.  She was born February 2, 1924 in Turners Falls, the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth (Ahlborn) Hanley. 

Margaret attended local schools and graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1941.  Upon graduation, she entered the employment of the New England Tel. & Tel. Company as a Telephone Operator.  During World War II she enlisted in the WAVES where she served two years achieving the rank of Specialist-Second Class.  Upon her honorable release from active duty, she returned to her employment at the Telephone Company, and retired in 1978 as a Senior Schedule Clerk.

Margaret was a long-time contributor to the Community Meals Program.  She was a former member of the St. Peregrine Visitors of Our Lady of Peace Parish.  She also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Margaret is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Maureen and John Wilhite of Alton, IL; several nieces and nephews including Fran and Meg Hanley and Barry and Patty Kostanski were her devoted caregivers, along with Zina.

She is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Mike and brothers James and Donald Hanley and a sister in-law Elizabeth.

Following a private chapel service, burial will be at the Agawam Veterans’ Cemetery with her husband, Mike.

There are no calling hours.
