Loretta J. (Walker) Markowski Obituary

Loretta J. (Walker) Markowski, 88, of Keith St. passed away Tuesday April 16, 2024, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center. She was born in Greenfield February 9, 1936, the daughter of Clifton and Norma (Sommer) Walker. She attended local schools in Shelburne Falls and graduated from Arms Academy in 1954. Loretta furthered her education and attended The Household School of Nursing on Newberry Street in Boston to obtain her LPN license. She completed her training at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. 
She then went on to private duty in Boston working for Dr. Madeline Brown who was wheelchair bound as her assistant as she cared for her patients. Then in 1959, she returned home and began a 10 year career as nurse at the former Farren Memorial Hospital in Montague City. She took time off to raise her son William before going on to work at Northfield Mount Hermon School in the Laundry Department for 17 years before retiring in June of 2004. Loretta enjoyed traveling to area train shows with her son, especially the Amherst Railway Society, a hobby show at the Big E.
She was married to Leon S. Markowski on December 31, 1966. Sadly, he passed away May 24, 1985. 
Loretta leaves her son and care giver William E. Markowski of Turners Falls. She also leaves a stepson Leon F. Markowski and his wife Karen of Deerfield.  She also leaves her sister in-law Diane Walker of Shelburne Falls and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Loretta was predeceased by her son Eric and her brother William.
A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Turners Falls.
