Loretta Demers Obituary

Loretta Y. (Morin) Demers, 92, died Sunday 12/20/2020 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield. She was born in Lowell, MA, as Yvonne Lorette, to John and Rose (Roy) Morin. Loretta attended Montague City School in Turners Falls. She was employed at the Franklin County Technical School as a cafeteria worker for thirteen years. She also worked as a Senior Aide at the Greenfield Senior Center for the Meals on Wheels Program and for the Franklin County House of Correction.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Women's Group; a member of the former Ladies of St. Anne's past president and charter member of the Auxiliary of the Montague Elks; past president of the former Montague City PTA; the Turners Falls PTA; and an active and assistant leader with the Cub Scouts.
Loretta was active working at St. Anne's bazaars and dinners and the Montague Elks Lodge. She started a Craft Club at the Montague Senior Center, where they made a little craft each month for Meals on Wheels, where she also helped with the monthly brown bags.
Loretta loved baking, going to craft shows, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She married Arthur J. Demers on January 5, 1946 in the former St. Anne's Church in Turners Falls. They spent forty three years together before he predeceased her on May 22, 1989.
She is survived by her five children: Edward (Carol) Demers of Colrain Rodney (Sherry) Demers, Russell (Jo-Ann) Demers and Paul (Deb) Demers, all of Turners Falls, and Melissa (Arthur) Patnode of Northfield; twelve grandchildren; six step grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; six brothers, Wilfred, Edward & Kenneth, all of Turners Falls and Robert, Richard and Donald, all of Florida; three sisters, Roseanna Murley of Turners Falls, Doris Barbeau of Newport News, VA and Cheryl Smith of Florida. Loretta also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Arthur, Loretta was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Sevene; a brother, George; two sisters Marion Clink and Mae Kosewicz; and her son in law Jim Sevene.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
