Lois Hill Obituary

Lois Ann (Balser) Hill, 91, passed away peacefully at home with her husband by her side on Monday, March 15th, 2021. She was born on January 3, 1930 in Northampton, MA to Ida and Frank Balser.
She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1947, and then attended both the Hiltner Secretary School in Greenfield, MA and the Baldwin Stenotype Institute in Springfield, MA.
Lois married Frank E. Hill on July 30th,1960, and they were married for 60 years. They traveled extensively with memorable trips to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Zion National Park and Banff National Park in British Columbia. They also took enjoyable vacations to the Hawaiian Islands and Bermuda. She loved to play Bingo at Foxwoods!!
Her professional career began as a Senior Payroll Clerk at the Millers Falls Tool Company until she left in 1967. After this position, she was a Court Reporter in the Vermont District Court (Brattleboro Office) from 1968-1970. She and Frank then relocated to Nashville, TN to support Frank's career change. During this time, Lois worked as the Secretary to the Director of the Hearing & Speech Center at Vanderbilt University.
After returning to Western, MA, in 1971, Lois began a long professional career at Amherst College. She first started working in the Registrar's Office, moving up to the position of Administrative Assistant to the Director of Institutional Research for 21 years, eventually retiring in 1992.
Lois spent most of her time with her family enjoying holiday events, BBQ's, and celebrations. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports and participate in activities.
Her volunteer work included time at the Greenfield Senior Center and the District Attorney's office. She was a member of the Bikeway committee in Turners Falls, and raised substantial money for the project.
Lois was predeceased by five siblings. She leaves her only child, a daughter, Patricia Kostanski and her husband Barry of Turners Falls, MA. Lois had two grandchildren, Jennifer Davenport (husband Clayton) of Greenfield, MA, and Katharine Tiedemann (husband Craig) of Deerfield, MA. Lois also had four great-grandchildren, Lindsay Davenport, Caitlyn Davenport, Emma Tiedemann and Olivia Tiedemann.
There are no calling hours and services will be private. The family would like to thank the Pioneer Valley Hospice nurses, aides and staff for the exceptional care and support that Lois received. Donations in her memory may be made to Pioneer Valley Hospice, 329 Conway Street Suite 2, Greenfield, MA 01301. Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls, MA is in charge of arrangements.
