Linda M. (Porter) Horta

Linda Marie (Porter) Horta,66, of Northfield, died peacefully, surrounded by loved-ones at home, on October 7th after a courageous battle against lung cancer. Linda was born 6/17/1955 to Ida and J.Raymond Porter in Greenfield, MA.  She grew up and graduated from GHS in 1973, active in varsity field hockey.  She attended Baystate Jr College majoring in court stenography and worked for Sebastian J. Ruggeri for three years, then Channing Bete and Northfield Mount Hermon.  Linda married Mark A. Horta on 2/28/76, enjoying 45 years of marriage and raising a family in Northfield. She enjoyed a 30 year career at Greenfield Community College, working as Assistant to the Dean for several Academic divisions. Devoted to lifelong learning, Linda earned her office management A.S. degree in 1993 and a Liberal Arts A.A. degree in 2007. She is survived by her husband, her children, son Antonio R. Horta (Corrina Steward) of Luquillo, PR and daughter, Marisa L. Thole (Randal) of Clearwater, MN.  Linda is also survived by four grandchildren, Leianna and Emmanual Horta and Porter and Priya Thole, as well as, a brother, Dennis R. Porter (Susan) and sister, Daryl J. Walsh (Tom) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Linda savored her time making crafts, sewing, gardening, reading, and cooking, even winning "Homemaker of the Year" twice at the Franklin County Fair.  Linda and husband Mark were life long travel partners, visiting most of the Caribbean and Europe together and had just finished their dream chalet with ocean views in Farado, PR.  Linda is thankful for her family and the many friends who were close by. She was the most incredible wife, mother, sister, daughter, co-worker, and friend anyone could have ever asked for.  

 Graveside services will be held on Saturday 10/16/21 at 10 AM at Calvary Cemetery, Wisdom Way Greenfield.  A Celebration of Life will follow at West Northfield Playground Rt. 142 Northfield MA.
