Lilith was an adventurous spirit with a lifelong passion for traveling, learning and healing. With her parents she survived Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen before the three made their way to America in 1945 and settled in Massachusetts, where she was educated, attended art school, and later met her husband, Jerry. After raising three children in New York and Connecticut, she embarked on a journey that led her to seek out teachers and healers around the world. Aside from practicing deep tissue therapy, yoga and acupuncture, she studied at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California; Tai Chi with Al Huang; and formal Japanese tea ceremony in Japan and the Urasenke Center in New York City. Lilith was also a naturopath and healer who learned from the shaman Maria Sabina in Mexico.

Lilith was an accomplished artist in many mediums from etchings to watercolors, influenced by her time spent on Monhegan Island, Maine and Big Sur, California.

Perhaps her longest involvement was with the Sensory Awareness Foundation, where she became a leader. Beginning her studies with Charlotte Selver and Charles Brooks in 1975, becoming a leader in 1984, she led classes in Mexico, Germany, Austria and the US. In her words: “The work is with me every day. Every person would benefit from getting a taste of Sensory Awareness. Every moment becomes a clearer moment for living.” In June of this year, she participated in her last Sensing workshop in Amherst, Mass.

Her friends and family will also miss her laugh, her passion for foraging and cooking mushrooms, her enjoyment of a sip of dark beer or a taste of crème brulée, her love of nature, her healing hands, and her generosity of spirit.

Lilith “Lily” Frankel Pincus, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, just after celebrating her 94th birthday in Greenfield, Mass. where she lived the last 17 years. She was born November 16, 1930, in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, and was the only daughter of Freidle and Leo Frankel. Lilith is survived by two of her three beloved children, Melissa Pincus-Nolan (and spouse Phil Nolan) and Diane Pincus (and spouse Ted Emerson). She was predeceased by her son Stephen Pincus and survived by her dear grandchildren from Stephen and Jennifer: Quentin, Emily, and Owen Pincus.

She’s also survived by her dear stepchildren Joshua Pincus (and spouse Clare Caldwell) and granddaughters McMillan, Eliza and Margaret; Rebecca Pincus (and spouse Mike Petersen) and grandson Eli; and the late Terence Pincus. She was predeceased by her former husband, Mark Jerome Pincus.

A celebration of Lilith’s wonderful life will be held at a later date.
