Leslie Gibson Obituary

Leslie A. Gibson, 98, of Northfield, MA died Saturday March 19, 2022 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield.  Leslie was born in Northfield on August 8, 1923, the son of Ralph Van Dyke Gibson, born in 1895 and died December 9, 1978 and Gertrude Miriam (Holton) Gibson, born October 13, 1896 and died August 31, 1987.
Leslie was educated in the Northfield School System, until he joined the United States Army in 1941.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.  Leslie was in the New Guinea Southern Philippines Battle/Campaign and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star. He also drove a supply truck during blackout supply runs. 
Leslie worked for C.E. Murray driving truck for a while.  He worked as a cement truck driver for the Northfield Sand and Gravel Company, which became the Lane Construction Company, until he retired in 1985.  He also drove nights for the A.R. Sandri Company to Boston to bring oil back to Greenfield. 
Leslie loved camping, playing cards with friends and family and snowmobiling.  He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.  He was one of the first members of the West Northfield Playground Association, working with others to give the children a safe place to play as well as have family outings.
On February 1, 1947, Leslie married Dorothy A. Foster in Greenfield, MA.  They were married for seventy four years before Dorothy passed away on May 13, 2021.  
Among his survivors, Leslie leaves his children, Leslie Ann Hohengasser (Daniel) of Greenfield and Bryon R. Gibson of Leyden; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 
Besides his beloved wife Dorothy, Leslie was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn A. (Gibson) Early (Fran), a son, Thomas E. Gibson (Lori) and a grandson, Robert Leslie Hohengasser.  He was also predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Fred and Paul and his sister Lois (Gibson) Rouleau. 
Funeral services will be held Friday 3/25 at 11am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield. 
A calling hour will be held Friday morning from 10am until the time of the service at the funeral home. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date and time.
