Leo H. Chartier, 94, formerly of Huntington Circle died Thursday 11/30/23 at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield.  He was born in Springfield on May 3, 1929, the son of Andre and Viola Chartier. He attended Chicopee public schools into his teens and achieved a High School diploma via GED later in life.

Mr. Chartier served in the United States Navy from 1946 until 1948, achieving an Honorable Discharge and obtaining the rank of Seaman Apprentice.

Leo retied as a correctional officer at the Connecticut State Prison.  Post-retirement he worked part time as a limousine driver and hotel receptionist when not traveling or pursuing his hobbies.

Leo was an avid skier, primarily at Berkshire East into his mid-80s and continued to golf multiple days a week in season at the Country Club of Greenfield until six years ago.

Among his survivors, Leo leaves a son, Bruce Chartier of Chicopee, MA and a daughter, Nicole Descheneaux of Berlin, CT.

Leo was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ingrid Chartier on May 30, 2022.

Leo will be missed by his friends and family and all those who enjoyed his ready smile, quick wit, and mischievous sense of humor.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday 12/13 from 4-6pm at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield. 

Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
