Joseph "Kip" P. Miskinis, Jr. Obituary
Joseph “Kip” P. Miskinis, 82, of Crocker Ave died Thursday 4/17/25 at home. He was born in Montague City, MA on March 22, 1943, the son of Joseph P. and Beatrice E. (Ritchotte) Miskinis, Sr.
Kip attended Holy Trinity School in Greenfield, MA through the 8th grade and then St. Michael’s High School in Northampton, MA where he won the State Science Fair competition at MIT two years in a row. After high school he attended The University of Hartford and the Porter School of Engineering where he studied Tool Design. He received a Certificate of Merit Award in “Design and Drafting” from the American Institute of Design and Drafting and graduated Cum Laude.
After graduating, Kip took over his father’s business and became the owner and operator of Miskinis Television and Appliance in Turners Falls for many years until his retirement.
Kip was a proud licensed pilot who owned a Comanche 250 airplane that he kept at the Turners Falls Airport where he was airport commissioner for several years. He enjoyed radio control airplanes, woodworking, electronics and fixing and tinkering with any item that needed to be repaired. When he was young, he was an avid skier, involved in the ski patrol and ski jumping. He also performed violin in the Junior Symphony. Kip also loved singing and was active in his church choir.
Kip loved nature and his pristine lawn was admired by all. Feeding and watching the birds was one of Kips’ most enjoyable pastimes along with tending his plants, gardening and slyly feeding “Chipster” the resident chipmunk. He loved entertaining and giving rides to his grandchildren around the yard on his tractor. Kip had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling jokes and hearing the predictable groans from those around him. Kip had the kind of presence you don’t forget. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, whether he was sharing a story, cracking a joke or being his warm, loving self.
Besides his beloved wife of thirty six years, Lillian “Lill” (Cadran) Miskinis, Kip leaves three children, Brian Miskinis and his wife Elaine of Epping, NH; Lisa Rathore of Greenfield and Lori Helfrich and her husband Brian of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Hayden and Kaya Miskinis, Ava Miskinis, Sunny Rathore, and Micah and Miles St. Kitts; one great grandchild; two brothers, Roger Miskinis of Greenfield and David Miskinis and his wife Debby of Evans, GA; a sister, Karen Kurkoski and her husband Edwin of Plymouth, MA; a son-in-law, Madan Rathore, of Brattleboro, VT and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
