John Frank Sojka, age 99, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday,
October 22, 2020, in Simsbury, CT in the presence of his loving wife
Barbara Sojka. John was born on February 4, 1921, in Turners Falls, MA.
He was one of 9 siblings. John, as well as his 5 brothers, served in WWII.
John served in the Navy. He attended Central Michigan and Columbia
University. While in Michigan he met Barbara and developed a love of
northern MI. Barbara and John celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary
on October 6th of this year. He worked at Chrysler as an engineer for 19
years and then moved to Grayling, MI and owned and operated a local
service station. He was passionate about his community and served in the
Grayling Rotary for many years. He is survived by his wife Barbara, three
children; Paul (Karole) Sojka, Christopher (Marci) Sojka, Tanya (Randall)
Stephens, seven grandchildren; Brad Kuske (Nicole Brickner), Ellen (Chris)
Needham, Ann Sojka (Thomas Bunting), Phillip (Abigail) Sojka, Lauren
Stephens-Valentin (Tom), Sydney Kuske, Marissa Stephens, and three
great grandchildren; Brianna Kuske, Miriam Needham and Jasper
Needham. Memorial donations can be made in the name of John Sojka to
