John Peterson Obituary

John E. Peterson, 72, of Leeds, MA died Sunday 7/18/21 at the Northamton VA Medical Center.     He was born in Greenfield on April 21, 1949, the son of Carl and Stella (Zachlowski) Peterson.  He graduated from Deerfield High School and shortly after joined the United States Navy. He served in the Navy from 1972 to 1976.

John was a former employee at the B&M Railroad as a welder. He also worked at the former Howard Johnsons and the Weldon Hotel in Greenfield. He was a proud Commander of the American Legion Post 81 for several years.

John, aka Jack, loved fishing, playing pool, playing cards and socializing. He especially loved helping fellow veterans and often volunteered at the food pantry in Greenfield.  His friends were all like family.  He was famous for his unique way of showing us that we were all #1.  Jack was a kindhearted funny soul that would do anything for anybody.

Among his survivors, John leaves two daughters, Michelle Peterson of Westbrook, ME and Lynn Peterson of Greenfield; grandchildren Jacquelyn Peterson, Samantha Kenney, Maxx Kenney, Alida Kenney, Tanner Kenney, Connor Girard and 3 great grandchildren all from Westbrook Maine.  a brother, Frank Peterson; and two nephews, Michael Peterson and Jeremy Peterson.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday August 7th from 1-3pm at The Greenfield Moose Lodge 20 School St. Greenfield, MA 01301.
