John L. Clough Obituary
John L. Clough, 70, of Willmark Ave passed away with his wife at his side Saturday May 18, 2024 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility. He was born in Montague June 3, 1953 the son of Malcolm and Helen (Broughan) Clough. John attended Greenfield schools and graduated from Greenfield High School, Class of 1971.
John worked at the Channing L. Bete Company for 47 years until his retirement in 2019. He started in the mail room and eventually moved on to managing the distribution center.
In his youth John played a variety of sports for high school and with the Rist Tavern AC and Bete Bombers. Later he watched his own sons play sports, took up golf and continued to be a fan of New England sports teams. As “Mayor of Parker Pond” in Maine, John enjoyed daily cocktail cruises with family and friends around the lake where he had a cottage. He enjoyed trips to the Caribbean and more recently to Alaska. Aside from spending time with his family, he loved the taste of good beer. He would talk about beer, sample pretty much any type of beer, go to breweries for flights, and talk about beer again.
John leaves his wife of 39 years, Susan Carey Clough, his sons: Daniel (Lu Yao) of Formia, Italy; Nicholas of Turners Falls; and his grandsons: Kai and Ian. He also leaves his siblings: Bette Allen (Doug), Nancy Cavanaugh (Bob), Mary Ellen March (Doug), Tim Clough (Jill), Tom Clough, Bill Clough (Sarah) along with many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother James. His dogs, Rocky and Tessie, will miss him as well.
Sue, Dan and Nick would like to thank the many family members and friends who visited and/or contacted John over the last several months. Their love and support meant a great deal and his visitors always put a smile on his face. They are also grateful for the wonderful caregivers, especially Sue, Jen and Cassidy along with everyone at hospice.
In lieu of flowers, John asked that you “buy yourself a good beer, drink it fresh and enjoy”. Then make a gift to Pioneer Valley Hospice & Palliative Care at 329 Conway St. Greenfield, MA. 01301
