Jeanette M. Lawrence Obituary

Jeanette M. (Bilz) Lawrence, 74, of Montague, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 23, 2023. She was born in Los Angeles, CA, on August 7, 1949, the daughter of Jack and Marjorie (Hecker) Bilz.  
She grew up in San Diego in a large, loving family. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education from San Diego State University. She continued her education, receiving a Master's degree in Guidance from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. 
Jeanette was a teacher and guidance counselor for the Greenfield Public Schools for 36 years. Her commitment to educating young minds was unapparelled. She was a trailblazer in the field of health education. Her innovative teaching methods and genuine care for her students left a lasting impact on countless young lives. Beyond her role in the classroom, Jeanette served as the head of student council for many years. She and her students were active in the Massachusetts Association of Student Councils where she was recognized for her leadership. As a compassionate guidance counselor, Jeanette went above and beyond to help students navigate the college application process. Her dedication and expertise led to numerous success stories as she assisted students in achieving their dreams of higher education. After her retirement, Jeanette enjoyed substitute teaching at Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls. 
Jeanette's talents extended beyond the classroom. She was an avid golfer and held the title of senior club champion at Thomas Memorial Golf Club. Her skill and passion for the sport brought her joy and connection with others on the course. Jeanette loved traveling to Europe with friends and family. Some of her favorite memories included trips to Ireland, France, Spain, Greece, and Italy. She had an eye for capturing these memories with creative keepsakes and scrapbooks beloved by all. 
Jeanette had a passion for life that was infectious. She enjoyed spending time with her family, creating lasting moments through laughter and shared experiences. Whether it was organizing family gatherings, cooking delicious meals, or simply sitting together and sharing stories, Jeanette's love brought everyone closer.
Jeanette leaves behind her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Paul Lawrence. In addition, she leaves two daughters, Julie Thomas and her husband Justin of Reno, NV, and Maegan Strunk and her husband Kevin of Sinking Spring, PA; four grandchildren, Charlie and Katelynn Thomas and Ella and Graeme Strunk; five siblings, Patricia Neill and her husband John of San Diego, CA, Barbara Bilz and her partner Jill Paul of Amherst, MA, Jack Bilz and his wife Erin, Robert Bilz and his wife Lisa and James Bilz and his wife Catherine, all of San Diego, CA; and several nieces and nephews. Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Marjorie Bilz.
A Memorial Mass will be held January 13th at 10am at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls, MA.
