James Allen Obituary

James E. Allen, 70, of Maple Lane died Thursday 4/29/2021 at home.  He was born in Augusta, ME on June 5, 1950, the son of Robert and Phyllis (Turner) Allen.  Jim was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1968. Jim served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He later graduated from Greenfield Community College with an Associates Degree. His career was spent in sales in the hardware and home improvement industry.

Jim loved everything to do with old cars, browsing antique and thrift shops, collecting, meeting with friends each morning for coffee and the daily crossword, and spending time with his family. He also loved a lively political discussion and enjoyed his participation in local government, including serving on the planning board and running in Greenfield’s first mayoral election.

Among his survivors, Jim leaves two daughters, Bonnie Devlin and her husband Danny of West Springfield and Bethany Deery and her husband James of Turners Falls; six grandchildren, Teagan, Keara, Grady, Rowan, Ian and Aengus; two brothers, Loren Allen and his wife Graciela of Hilton, NY; and Gary Allen and his husband Paul of San Jose, CA; two sisters, Linda Allen and Cynthia Bukowski, both of Greenfield; his former wife and dear friend, Irene Hayde; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by a son at birth, Sean, as well as his fiancé, Dottie Arnold.
