Helen Lopatka Obituary

Helen J. (Wywiorski) Lopatka, 104, of Walnut St. died Friday (3-24-23) at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility after a very brief stay. She was born in Holyoke January 27, 1919 the daughter of Frank and Victoria (Radwanski) Wywiorski. 
Helen attended local schools in Holyoke including Mater Dolorosa School. She married Stanley F. Lopatka on April 27, 1941, in Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke. Helen was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church and also the former Sacred Heart Church where she was a member of the Guild and served as president. 
Even though Helen worked numerous part-time jobs she was first a homemaker. She mastered many crafts including tatting, crocheting, quilting, rug braiding, crewel work, sewing and knitting. She knitted many hats and mittens for family, friends and Warm The Children. Gardening flowers and vegetables was a summer activity. Family always enjoyed her cooking (pierogi) and baked goodies at gatherings and visits. She followed and rooted on her favorite teams, Boston Red Sox, Patriots, and college men’s basketball teams, UMass, Duke & Kentucky. Any team her grandkids and great-grandkids played on she kept track. 
Helen leaves her son Richard and his wife Linda of Sunderland; her daughter Judy Ciszewski and her husband David of Greenfield; seven grandchildren, Tanya Harris and her husband Michael of Arvada, CO, Peter Lopatka and his wife Jennifer of Saratoga Springs, NY, Joseph Lopatka and his wife Rachele of Katonah, NY, Jessica Mancini and her husband Joseph of Mountain View, CA, Christine Huppee and her husband John of Liberty Hill, TX, Kevin Ciszewski and his wife Michelle of Northboro, MA, and Matthew Ciszewski and his wife Katharine of Tiverton, RI and 16 great grandchildren and a niece. 
Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her brother Michael Wywiorski and her sister Jane Popkowski. 
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Blessed Trinity Parish/Holy Trinity Church 133 Main St. Greenfield. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, Greenfield. 
There are no calling hours. 
Memorial contribution may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
