Gladys Silva Obituary

Gladys R. (Greene) Silva, 82, of Pratt Street died Monday 6/21/21 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born in Camden-on Gauley, WV on March 29, 1939, the daughter of Clarence Greene and  Virginia (Foster) Greene. Gladys attended local schools in  Turners Falls and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School Class of 1958.

Gladys met the love of her life, Raymond Silva, at the age of 16. This year they would celebrate sixty two years of marriage.
Gladys worked in various local retail locations, including Rockdale in Turners Falls, Mammoth Mart, Kings, Peggy Parkers, and the business they owned, Service Master. She eventually retired at Ames department store.  While at Ames she enjoyed making birthday cakes for her co workers.

Gladys was a girl scout leader for many years she enjoyed biking, hiking and camping and other activities with the Troup.
Gladys played on a local softball team for a time. She enjoyed  bowling on leagues at the French King Bowling Center.
Gladys was artistic she could draw and did oil painting. She enjoyed teaching her children, grandchildren and great grand children to draw and play games.

Gladys enjoyed preparing food for Sunday Gatherings with her family.
Gladys always went the extra mile for others and welcomed everyone with open arms.

Gladys loved taking pictures and in her retirement years she enjoyed  putting her pictures in albums. She also spent time doing the family tree.

Besides her beloved husband of sixty two years, Raymond, Gladys leaves four daughters, Linda Wilson and her husband Richard of Orange;  Brenda Silva and her partner Tim Cronin of Erving; Sharon King of Erving; and Karen Canedy of Erving; Seven grandchildren, Jeremy Thayer, Chandra Hart, Heath Cummings and his wife Silvia, Meagan King, Brandon Canedy, Brielle Euvrard and Kristen Canedy; six great grandchildren, Imari, Ashanti, Mason, Scarlet, Silas and  Sterling; Seven siblings, Betty Rodgers of South Carolina, Martha Sumner of Idaho, Barbara Chandler and her husband Robert of Illinois, Clarence Greene of West Virginia, Janice Macleay and John Murphy of Turners Falls, Joseph  Murphy of Greenfield, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her step father, Donald Murphy, sister  Judith (Murphy) Metcalf and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday 6/29 at 10am at Center Cemetery in Erving.
