Georgia E. (Meredith) Belt Obituary

On July 9th, 2025, heaven received another angel.  Georgia E Belt of Greenfield, Mass went peacefully to the Lord to join her husband, mother, sister, and brothers. Georgia Elaine Meredith Belt was born on September 20th, 1927, in Corey Pennsylvania.  She was one of six siblings.  Georgia worked for Mohawk Plastics for 28 years retiring in 1992. She also worked as a Senior Aide for Franklin County Home Care.

Georgia was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenfield where she was a member of the Altar Guild and Clugas. Our Moms favorite hymn was “How Great thou Art” She was an avid sports fan enjoying watching golf and her favorite Red Sox’s and New England Patriots even knowing the names of all the team members.

Georgia was a kind sweet soul and was known for her great sense of humor.

On September 20, 1946, she married Douglas L. Belt in Jamestown, New York. Together with their daughters moved to Greenfield in 1961. Georgia is predeceased by her son in-law John Markwell, her brother David Meredith, daughter Martha Belt Markwell, her husband Douglas L. Belt, her mother Eva Engle Meredith Culp, sister Marjorie Engle Durnell brother Harold Munsee and brother Robert Munsee.

She is survived by her sister Carole Schrieber and husband James of Warren Pennsylvania, her sister in law Joan Meredith of Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, daughter April Belt of Woodland Hills California, her son Scott Belt of Bellows Falls VT, her grandson Jason Markwell, his wife Christina and their two children Madison and Jacob of Greenfield, nieces and nephews, Joan Munsee, Tonya Messimer, Rhonda DeSimone, Jill Arnold Miller, Steven Arnold, Michael Arnold.    

A celebration of life for Georgia will be held Monday July 14th, 2025. Calling hours are 1pm-2pm followed by the celebration of life service at 2:00pm and will be held at Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St, Greenfield, Mass. Burial will be at later date in Green River Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church and to Greenfield Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Activities Fund. Georgia’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the staff at Greenfield Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their amazing skilled and passionate care that was given to our beloved mother and to us what a wonderful team at GRN and thank you for the wonderful care given by the staff from Pioneer Valley Hospice. 

 Georgia’s favorite color was blue; the family request everyone wear something blue to her celebrate of life.
