Genevieve Guy Obituary

Genevieve P. (Grybko) Guy, 94, of Turnpike Rd. passed away Friday (8-6-21) at home. She was born January 3, 1927 in Deerfield the daughter of Andrew and Josephine (Leonowicz) Grybko. Gen attended local schools and graduated from Greenfield High School class of 1946. She then went on to further her education at the Northampton Commercial College. Gencia married Richard O. Guy on October 8, 1955 at St. Stanislaus Church in South Deerfield. They were married 49 years at his passing on January 4, 2005.

She worked for Beneficial Finance for many years and Wilson’s Department Store during the holiday season. After retirement, Gen became the secretary at the former St. Mary’s Church for many years. She was a devote Catholic and enjoyed visiting area churches. She was a member of the former Catholic Women’s Council at Our Lady of Peace Church. She enjoyed traveling, but above of all, spending time with family especially her grandsons and great grandson.

Gencia leaves her children, Richard Jr. of South Deerfield, Mary Guy Madden of Nashua, NH and Jimmy (Katie) Guy of Turners Falls; her grandsons, Jeffrey Guy, Tim Guy, Zachary Guy, Oliver (Andrea) Madden, Patrick (Casey) Guy and Alexander Madden and her great grandson, Lincoln. She also leaves her siblings, Pauline Kuzdeba of South Deerfield, Donald (Elizabeth) Grybko of Greenfield and Richard (Mary Ann) Grybko of Colorado Springs, CO; her sister in-laws, Irene Grybko of South Deerfield and Vivan Grybko of Frankfort, KS; her brother in- law Paul (Pauline) Guy of Turners Falls; a daughter in-law Andi Guy of Greenfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Beside her parents and husband, Gen was predeceased by her son David in 2013 and her daughter in-law Kathleen Guy in 2013 and her siblings Charles, Roger, Andrew, James, Rosaline St. Hilaire, Delia Magelinski and several bothers in-law and sisters in-law.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Thursday (8-12-21) at 10 AM at Holy Family Parish, 29 Sugarloaf St., South Deerfield, MA. Burial will follow in Springdale Cemetery in Turners Falls. Calling hours will be held Wednesday (8-11-21) from 4-6 PM at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Cooley Dickinson VNA/Hospice, PO Box 329, Northampton, MA 01061 or to Turners Falls Athletic Club, PO Box 11, Turners Falls, MA. 01376.
