Genevieve “Genny” Emma Denkewicz (Beebe) came into this world on May 15, 1927 in Lake Champlain, NY to parents Victor Beebe and Leona (Barcomb) Beebe. She married her soulmate, Raymond Peter Denkewicz, in 1948 in Brattleboro, VT. They resided in Millers Falls, MA until becoming residents of Bradenton, Florida during retirement. After 69 ½ years with the love of her life, she was predeceased by Raymond in 2017. Genny passed away in Bradenton, FL on November 12, 2022 following a brief illness.
She leaves her six children: Gloria Denkewicz-Carme and partner John Solberg of Bradenton, FL; Catherine Ptak of Turners Falls, MA; Karen Burek and husband Peter of Bradenton, FL; Mary (Lucie) Denkewicz and life partner Helen Skeels of Englewood, FL; Raye Marie Young and husband Richard of Millers Falls, MA; and Raymond Peter Denkewicz, Jr. of Wakefield, RI. She was predeceased by her son-in-law James Ptak and daughter-in-law Carolann Denkewicz.
Genny loved to sing and dance. She was known to sing “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie” to her grandchildren and was never afraid to sing “Blueberry Hill” at karaoke. She could out-dance anyone and, even in her 90s, would cut the rug to a Jitterbug.
Genny’s greatest source of pride and joy in life came from sharing her love of arts and crafts with her family. Her grandchildren all were kept warm with knitted mittens, sweaters, and scarves. She enjoyed puzzles, painting, playing games, canning vegetables grown by Raymond, cooking meals for her family, and watching her 12 grandchildren grow: Peter Burek, Jr, Amy (Burek) Freeman, Angela (Burek) Anderson, Jason Burek, Nicholas Carme, James Ptak, Jr, Pamela Ptak-Interlande, Christopher Varilly, Daniel Varilly, Taylor (Varilly) Weir, Ryan Denkewicz, MD and Andrew Denkewicz. Another delight in her life were her 16 great-grandchildren and soon-to-be number 17. They always brought smiles to her face. There was never a little one that was not sitting on her lap, playing checkers, tic tac toe, or painting rocks with her. They will all miss their GGMa deeply.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 (her 96th birthday) at 9 AM from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Sq., Turners Falls, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Turners Falls, MA. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Millers Falls, MA.
