Francis Brissette Obituary

Francis Edward Brissette, born on September 12, 1938, at the Farren Memorial Hospital in Turners Falls, MA, passed away on February 25, 2023, under the care of Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst, MA.
Fran (Frank) was the son of W. Edward and Ann (Hanley) Brissette of Greenfield and leaves behind Arlene Siano Brissette (wife of 30 years) of Turners Falls, son James of Amherst, and daughter Mary Walsh of Paoli, PA, and daughter Ann Palermo and Pete Magyar of Dedham, MA, and grandchildren, Michael Walsh of St. Paul, MN, Juliana Brissette of NYC, and Isabelle and Audrey Magyar of Dedham. Fran was predeceased by his grandson Matthew Walsh, and by his sisters Carole Korkosz of Chicopee, MA, and Katherine Caigoy of Fairfax, VA. He also leaves behind his dear friends Joey Powers, formerly of Greenfield, and Tom Collins of Walpole, MA, and was predeceased by dear friend Billy Martin (GHS class of 1956).
Fran graduated from Holy Trinity School (grade 8) in Greenfield and then Greenfield High School in 1956. He played on the GHS varsity football and basketball teams. During summers, he worked for the USDA on gypsy moth control. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH, in 1960 and then, a few years later, his M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He went on to teach English and social studies, first at Greenfield Junior High School and then for several decades at Athol-Royalston (MA) Junior High School. He also coached basketball, was a basketball referee, and worked many summers for the Greenfield DPW in the forestry department. He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield. 
The family wishes to send special thanks to Mike Motisi of Holy Trinity Church; Father Valentine of the Newman Center at UMass/Amherst; Father Douglas McGonagle of Most Holy Redeemer Parish of Hatfield, MA; the entire staff and volunteers of the Hospice of the Fisher Home for their kindnesses in caring for Fran at the end of his life; and the kind staffs at Baystate-Franklin Medical Center, Regal Care of Greenfield, and Charlene Manor for all their recent care.
 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Trinity Parish/Holy Trinity Church 133 Main St. Greenfield, MA 01301, Hospice of the Fisher Home 1165 N. Pleasant St. Amherst, MA 01002, or to Greenfield High School 21 Barr Ave. Greenfield, MA 01301.
