Fernand Zagame, 74, of Lampblack Road died Monday 5/3/21 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Tunis, Tunisia on October 11, 1946, the son of Fernand and Alice (Costa) Zagame. Fernand moved to New York in 1956 with his mom and sister where his love of baseball began.
He was a graduate from the Academy of aeronautics. He lived on Long Island, NY where he owned Aquarius Pet Center. This is where he met his wife, Patricia. They moved to Boston Massachusetts in 1980 where he owned a coin and jewelry store for many years before moving to Greenfield in 1984. Fernand owned and operated Pioneer Valley Truck Caps with his wife for twenty years before his retirement.
An avid Yankee fan, he was a Babe Ruth and Greenfield girls’ softball coach for several years. He enjoyed wood working, remodeling, gardening, cooking, and his love of good food and wine shared with friends which always led to nights full of laughter and stories of his life.
Besides his beloved wife of 39 years Patricia (Frey) Zagame, Fernand leaves a son, Tyler Zagame, his wife Martha (Mitchell) Zagame and their two children, Kamden, and Adyson Zagame of Turners; a daughter, Alysandra “Aly” Zagame of Greenfield; nieces, Cristina Martino, Jennifer and Amanda Frey and a nephew Christopher Frey. He also leaves his two brothers in laws Walter Frey and Carlos Martino and a cousin, who was his best friend, Andy Papertsian.
Besides his parents, Fernand was predeceased by a sister Danielle Martino.
A future celebration of life is being planned.
