Elizabeth (Rydell) Gulo Obituary
Our dear, sweet, funny mother, Elizabeth Louise Rydell Gulo, passed away on July 8, 2025 in Keene, NH at the age of 93. She was born in Montague, MA on June 16, 1932, the daughter of Stanley and Mary (Boruh) Rydell. She attended elementary school in Millers Falls, MA and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School.
After high school Betty married Eugene (Sonny) Gulo and embraced the roles of devoted wife and loving mother. She raised her own family in the same house in which she and her six siblings grew up. The home she created became a gathering place for family dinners, birthdays and holidays. She was proud of her Polish heritage and made a delicious pierogi casserole. Though quiet and unassuming, Betty was one of the hardest-working people you could ever meet.
Betty was an administrative assistant at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst for many years until her retirement. After retirement, she relocated to Keene, NH to be closer to her family.
Betty’s life was filled with blessings, with the most treasured being her family, those close by and far-flung. She leaves three loving daughters, Pamela Cross ( Edward) of Hoosick Falls, NY; Paula Gulo and Mary Lou Cascagne (Mike) both of Keene, NH; four cherished grandchildren, Nicole Galvin, Adam Cross, Katie Gardner, Jamie Barry; seven great grandchildren of whom she was justly proud, Jack and Tommy, David, Gracie, Andrew, William, Lillian; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, Eugene Gulo, Betty was predeceased by six siblings, Frank Rydell, Stephen Rydell, Mary Judsky, Victoria Strahan, Bertha Trudeau and Stephanie Wood. Her family will forever hold her memory close in their hearts.
Out of respect for Betty’s wishes, a graveside ceremony will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, at noon in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Turners Falls, MA.
