Edgar W. Smith, 97, passed away on Friday, July 25th, 2025, at Charlene Manor in Greenfield.  Edgar was born in Ticonderoga New York on September 26, 1927, to Nina and Edgar Smith. He attended local schools.

Edgar joined the navy in 1944 and over the years worked at Bendex until he retired.

Edgar married Jennie Wagner in Greenfield on June 13, 1948, and they were married for 75 years. They lived in Turners Falls and after retirement they moved to Zephyrhills, Florida and spent several summers at Holden Beach, North Carolina. They then traveled across the country visiting relatives and eventually settled back in Greenfield at 368 Davis St. Edgar was very social and made friends easily.

Survivors include his sons Ronald (Faye-Jean), Gary and daughter, Tina. He leaves grandchildren Taffy Ruggeri (Joey), Kelly Smith, Aubrey Chaverri (Jonathon), Ryan Smith, Jeff Putnam (Laura) and great grandchildren Sophia Ruggeri, Anthony Ruggeri, Evelyn Smith, Violet Chaverri and Lyla Chaverri as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son in law Paul Putnam.

Edgar was known as “Bill” for many years until he retired.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
