Douglas Clapp Obituary

Douglas H. Clapp, 71, of Quincy Street died Wednesday 12/16/20 at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield after a period of declining health. He was born in Greenfield on May 6, 1949, the son of Robert Russell and Barbera (Belding) Clapp. He attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1967.
Doug was a Call Fire Fighter for the then Town of Greenfield, a heavy machine operator for various construction companies, and a truck driver for Crop Production Services, retiring in 2018.
He was a life member of the Turners Falls Rod & Gun Club, attained the Fellowship degree in the Loyal Order of the Moose #997, a member of the Greenfield Elks Lodge #1296, and a life member of the Polish American Citizen's Club in South Deerfield.
Doug loved hunting in his earlier years. He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, rooting on Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. He especially enjoyed his 1982 Harley Davidson Sturgis motorcycle and was a devoted member of the Harley Owners Group formerly of Bernardston, MA.
Doug leaves his wife of twenty-three years, Kathleen Rowe-Clapp; his daughter, Johanna Kosciolek and her husband David of Gardner; four grandsons, Vincent, Kyle, Brayden and Oliver; two step-sons, Joshua Finlay of Texas and Jamie Finlay of Charleston, SC; seven step grandchildren, Damian, Annabelle, Jonas, Joshua Jr., Maddox, Axton and Aleysha; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was especially faithful to his Labrador retrievers. He leaves behind his Daisy and Duke, the dogs who loved him very much.
Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by his brother, Richard Clapp.
Calling hours will be held Saturday 12/26 from 10am-12noon at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield. Social distancing and masks will be required.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
