Dorothy “Dottie” A. Conway, 79, of 9 River Street passed away early Tuesday morning (12.17.24) at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center with her family by her side.
Born on January 25, 1945, in Greenfield, she was the daughter of William and Ethel (Herzig) Platner. Dottie was raised in Colrain, and in 1963, she graduated from Arms Academy. After graduation, she worked for Wesco in Greenfield, and it was during this time that she met her future husband, John “Jack” E. Conway. In 1966, they married and lived in Greenfield for two years before moving to Colrain, where they raised their five children.
While a mom of five, she also worked various jobs throughout her life at places such as Mohawk Trail Regional High School, Pine Hill Orchard, Howard Johnsons, Greenfield Library and for the Town of Colrain.
Dottie enjoyed knitting, gardening, astronomy and writing to her pen pals throughout the world and was an avid reader, she especially loved biographies (if there was anything about the royal family, she wanted to read it). Until health issues deterred her, she was active in researching the Platner and Conway family’s genealogy.
She also loved to sit and do trivia questions with her daughter Marianne or just listen to her share fun facts she would read in magazines, websites, etc. And Dottie loved her snacks!
She is predeceased by her husband of 39 years, John E. Conway.
Dottie is survived by her five children, Karen Conway of Milford, NH; John Conway of Jaffrey, NH; Maureen Conway of New Hope, PA; twins, Marianne Conway of Leominster, MA and Melissa (Conway) Cashman of Rowley, MA; a granddaughter, Ciara Bryans of Nashua, NH and cousins Ginny and Jan Malouin of Pepperell, MA.
A graveside service will be held at North River Cemetery in Colrain at a later date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to RegalCare at Greenfield, 95 Laurel Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
