Dorothy (Shumway) Milewski

Dorothy Shumway Milewski, 89, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024. Dorothy was born February 7, 1935. Her parents were Floyd Shumway and Alice Davenport Shumway. She married Irving J Milewski on August 1, 1959. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1953, and later in life obtained an Associate’s Degree from Greenfield Community College in 1977.
Dorothy leaves three sons, Brian (Diane) Milewski of Methuen MA, Gary (Kathy) Milewski of Merrimac MA and Scott Milewski of Sunderland MA; five grandchildren; Mac Milewski (Lowell), Whitney (Anthony Hibbard) Milewski (Wells, ME), Mathew (Adria) Milewski (Jericho, VT), Caitlin (Maurice) Goin (Wilmington, MA) and Josh (Alexandra) Milewski (Plaistow, NH); three great grandchildren; (Miles, Valley and Leilani) and a brother Richard (Sandi) Shumway (Seneca, SC).
Dottie was predeceased by her husband, Irving, on March 16, 2017, her parents and two brothers, Herbert and William Shumway.
Her hobbies include knitting hats, mittens and sweaters for her entire family and rug braiding of which she created several for her home. She was a Cub Scout den leader and a member of Frontier Regional High School Boosters Club. She also enjoyed watching her sons participate in sports.
She was employed in dental offices for several years; Dr James Roman (Greenfield), Dr Arthur Lassek (South Deerfield) and Dr. Hoyt McCauley (Greenfield). Her last 15 years was a secretary in the College of Engineering at UMass Amherst Her greatest joy there was helping the students get through the rigors of school.
There will be a private graveside service. Donations in her memory may be made to South County Emergency Medical Services in South Deerfield, MA.
