Dorothy Kochan Obituary

GREENFIELD — Dorothy M. (Call) Kochan, 86, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the St. Luke’s Hospice House in Bethlehem, PA. She was born in Claremont, NH on June 30, 1931, the daughter of Charles and Miriam (Lebert) Call. Dorothy lived in Winsted, Connecticut as a child before moving to Greenfield her in her senior year, where she attended and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1950. She attended Northampton Commercial College and graduated in 1952. She then worked as a secretary for United Aircraft Corporation in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1954 she returned to Greenfield to marry Louis J. Kochan.

Dorothy continued her education over the years attending Greenfield Community College and University of Massachusetts for business administration and management. She was a self-employed bookkeeper working for various small businesses. She was also involved and employed with the Franklin County ARC. She then was employed by Franklin County Home Care as an accountant for 25 years until her retirement in 2005.

She was also involved in Girl Scouts serving as a troop leader, treasurer for Western Mass Girl Scout Council and attended the 75th year Anniversary Celebration of Girl Scouts in Washington D.C. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, sewing, and baking. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenfield, and St. Nicholas Church in Walnutport, PA. Dorothy was an intelligent, talented woman, who while raising a family, pursued obtaining an education, having a career, and was actively involved in various church and community activities.

Among her survivors, Dorothy leaves two sons, James of Greenfield and Michael of Erving; four daughters, Miriam “Mimi” Canedy of Conway, Margaret Bourbeau of Greenfield, twins, Dorothy Mae Abbey of Greenfield

and Dorothy Joan Urbanavage of Bethlehem, PA; a brother, Donald B. Call of Millertown, NY; a sister, Mary MacLeod of Silver Springs, MD; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Louis J. Kochan, and her three sons Robert, Stephen and Thomas.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, at 9:15am from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenfield. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
