Dorothy A. (Foster) Gibson, 96, of Northfield died Thursday 5/13/21 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield, MA. Dorothy was born in West Bridgewater, MA on April 24, 1925. She is the daughter of Maude (Bennett) and Richard Foster. Her father died January 30, 1931. Her mother died on May 12, 1989. Her stepfather Edmund F. Toomey died March 5, 1995.
Dorothy was educated in Greenfield Schools to graduation.
She is survived by her husband< Leslie, of seventy-four years; their children, Leslie Ann (Gibson) Hohengasser (Daniel) and Bryon R. Gibson; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn A. Early (Fran); a son, Thomas E. Gibson (Lori) and a grandson, Robert Leslie Hohengasser.
Dorothy worked at Montgomery Ward during her high school years, the Northfield School for Girls during her early married years, and Wilson’s Department Store until she retired.
She enlisted in the Navy after high school and was honorably discharged.
Dorothy enjoyed going to chit chat in Greenfield, sewing and doing art while enjoying the company of other women in the group. Her favorite vacation spots were Wells and Ogunquit, ME. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader and volunteered time to the Girl Scouts. One of her favorite things to do after retirement was going camping, going to art festivals and out to restaurants with the love of her life, Leslie. She truly loved all the family holidays and family events.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 5/22 at 11am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
A calling hour will be held Saturday morning from 10am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
