Donald McGann, Sr. Obituary

Donald S. McGann, Sr., 94, of West Mountain Road died Tuesday 5/18/21 at home.  He was born in Montague on July 9, 1926, the son of Robert A. and Mary (Stevenson) (McGann) Wood.
Don married Catherine Petty on July, 5, 1952.
Don enlisted in the United States Navy, retiring in 1963 after twenty years of service.  After his time spent in the military, Don attended a graduate program at Mahar Regional High School, receiving his high school diploma.  After that, he attended Greenfield Community College and graduating from North Adams Community College with a Business Degree. 
Don was a food service manager for the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, retiring in 1994.  Prior to that he was employed at Northfield Mount Herman in the food service department.  In his earlier years, Don sold insurance through Fish Insurance and also dabbled in real estate. 
He was a life member of the Bernardston Vets Club, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 997 in Greenfield, the Brattleboro VFW Post 1034 and the American Legion Post 5 in Brattleboro, VT.
Don was active in the community, serving three terms as a Selectman for the town of Bernardston.  He was the clerk of the polls. 
Don enjoyed traveling with Catherine throughout the United States, visiting all fifty states aside from Hawaii.   They also traveled to Canada on a couple occasions. 
Besides his beloved wife of sixty eight years, Catherine (Petty) McGann, Don leaves two sons, Donald S. McGann, Jr. of Bernardston and Robert McGann (Kim) of Colorado; a grandson, Christopher; a granddaughter, Molly; a niece, Roberta (McGann) Borden (Chuck); nephews, Charles, William and Robert, all of CT; a sister in law, Ann Germano; nieces Amy Germano (Shin) Miyoski and Mary Ellen Stein.
Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his brother, Robert McGann in 1971; mother in law, Julia Petty in 1988; sister in law, Julia McGann in 2001 and brother in law Leonard Germano.
The family would like to thank Pioneer Valley Hospice and Rev. David Neil for their help, guidance and care through this final chapter, along with the staff Kostanski Funeral Home. 
Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
